Running with the Bulls!!

November 30, 2011 Leave a comment

The Chicago Bulls are back and ready to take the court Christmas day against the Los Angeles Lakers.  I don’t know about anybody else, but I wasn’t too worried about missing the season since I still have fantasy football, and the Blackhawks to watch.  I knew the Players and owners were far apart in negotiations, so I wasn’t giving my hopes up for having a season.  Since the deal is reached I couldn’t be anymore excited for the Basketball season to start, and fantasy basketball to begin.

Derrick Rose won’t have to miss a year of his prime now that the lockout is over, and that only benefits the Bulls.  The Bulls come in the second favorites to win the NBA Championship only below the hated Miami Heat.  Free agency is set to begin soon later this week, and everybody will be watching to see what the Bulls do to address the shooting guard position.  I actually like having the rotation of Kyle Korver, Keith Bogans, and Ronnie Brewer, call me crazy but I actually think it worked to our benefit.  Most of the free agents such as Jamal Crawford, O.J. Mayo, and Aaron Afflalo don’t play defense like Bogans, and Brewer do, where they play both ways.  I say keep it the way it is and let the bench mob play out the year, without bringing in some offensive minded ball hog.

I will be putting up the 2011-12 Fantasy Basketball rankings up soon, and will be talking about whether Albert Pujols, Prince Fielder, or Carlos Pena are the better fit for the Cubs at first base.

Theo and Jed’s Excellent Adventure

November 17, 2011 Leave a comment

Dale Sveum was named the Head coach of the Chicago Cubs today, as Theo was hinting on Wednesday that the closer was in the game for the managerial job, meaning it was almost complete.  The presser will be tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. and I’m pretty excited to wake up early on my only day to sleep in to watch the final press conference for the time being, unless Prince Fielder, or Albert Pujols are on their way to the north side.

I like the hire in Dale Sveum, unlike most people who don’t like that he doesn’t have the experience, well neither does Alomar, or Mckanin.  Alomar was said to not be in the running anymore after he told Theo and co. that he did not believe in the stats side of business, and that the old school way is the way to go.  Sveum on the other hand likes the way that stats is taking over the game, and that it is the new way to do business in building a team.  It also helps that Sveum receives praise from Terry Francona, and Theo as he was the 3rd base coach for the World Series Red Sox team in 2004.  Sveum is a players coach, many like him in the Brewers organization, where he has been the hitting coach this past season, he also took over for Ned Yost when he was fired in 2008, and led the Brewers to a playoff run the last part of September, but ended up losing in the first round to the Phillies.

One thing that Sveum might be able to bring to the Cubs is not just being such highly regarded by others in the front office, but he might be able to convince Prince Fielder over to the North side of town.  Since Sveum has been his hitting coach, he probably knows Fielder’s swing inside and out, after the press conference tomorrow, Theo and Jed will probably sit with Dale and go over the possibility of bringing Fielder over here.  It’s going to be interesting to see what is going to happen now that the manager is finally in place, we might see some moves get done sooner rather than later.  Let Theo and Jed’s Excellent Adventure begin!!!

The New Cubs Culture is Underway

November 3, 2011 Leave a comment

Theo Epstein, Jed Hoyer, and Jason McLeod are well underway in running things differently here on the North Side of Chicago.  Mike Quade was told yesterday that he would not return as manager of the Cubs.  This is not shocking at all to anybody who follows the Cubs closely, Quade was not ready to become a big league manager, keeping pitchers in too long, not putting the right pitcher in the right situation, and not pinch-hitting the right person.  His decisions made you think that anybody could run this team better than he could.  Anyways here is a list of my top candidates to fill in to this new Cubs managerial role, and have a good time knowing that there is good people in the front office running things  The List is as follows:

Terry Francona-  Nothing would excite me more than get the Beatles even more reunited with Jed, Theo, and Jason already reuniting here in Chicago.  Theo said today to the media that Tito would not need an interview for the job here for the Cubs, since they are already familiar with each other.  The only questions that linger is are they both over the collapse that happened to Boston in October, and are they ready to get back together.  Those are the only two possible things that would keep Theo from hiring Terry again, also Tito might want to stay in the broadcast booth for a year, and take some time off.

Mike Maddux- Maddux is a pitchers dream to work with, he’s built one of the best rotations in the league, getting C.J. Wilson, Colby Lewis, Derek Holland, Matt Harrison, and Alexi Ogando.  He’s worked with these guys over the past couple of seasons, and has worked with them to become one of the most feared rotations in the league.  Maddux is also appealing to me because he’s worked in the NL Central before with the Brewers also as their pitching coach, and there could be a slight chance he asks Greg Maddux his brother to be the pitching coach.

Joe Maddon-  Maddon is probably one of my favorite managers in the game today, he is such a players coach, he knows when to push the right buttons, and he gives the players hope of winning everyday they go to the ballpark.  He seems to be a guy that Theo would want to run the ball club everyday, although he is still under contract their still might be a way to get him.  The Rays have the second lowest payroll in the game, year in and year out for the past 4 seasons, Joe Maddon has carried them to winning seasons, and put in a winning culture in Tampa Bay.

Dale Sveum-  I’ve heard nothing but good things about Dale since the manager job has opened here in Chicago.  I remember when he took over as the interim manager a couple of years ago for the Brewers for the last part of the season.  He is supposed to be another locker room guy, who can be loose off of the field, but serious when it’s game time.  Also Sveum was part of the Red Sox organization in 2004, 2005, when the Beatles were running things in Boston, so there is some familiarity.

These are probably my top four right now to take over for Mike Quade, there is also of course other candidates that are being thrown around out there such as Sandy Alomar Jr. Dave Martinez, and Pete Mackanin.  Let me know what you think about my list, and who you think should be the new coach of the Cubs.

Week 8 NFL Start Em Sit Em

Teams on Bye: Falcons, Bears, Packers, Jets, Raiders, Bucs

QuarterBacks

Start Em-

Eli Manning- Manning is going up against the worst team in the league in the Rams, he should be able to carve up the defense all day in the Meadowlands.

Ryan Fitzpatrick- Fitzpatrick just inked a nice new long-term deal to be the Bills Quarterback of the future, he goes up against the Redskins this week, I think he’ll show why he’s the Qb of the future.

Andy Dalton– Dalton has probably been the 2nd best Quarterback to come out of the draft this year so far behind Cam Newton.  He has surprised everybody with his presence in the pocket, and his accuracy.  Seahawks have a good defense but I think with Benson out, Dalton will be on leaned on a little more.

Ben Roethlisberger- When the Steelers and Patriots go up together, it’s more times than not going to be a shootout.  Last year both Brady and Roethlisberger put up huge numbers when they played each other, I see this game being no different.

Sit Em-

Alex Smith– Smith has been playing good at home lately, especially the game against the Bucs.  Joe Haden is healthy for the Browns so that isn’t a good matchup for top receiver Crabtree, I expect the 49ers to lean on Gore in this game, while Smith will only throw for 1 TD.

Tim Tebow-  He keeps on showing to me why he isn’t a good QB at all, many people thinks he’s so great because of the comeback win last week against the Dolphins.  He only threw for over 100 yards, but ran for 50, this week against the Lions he should get a wake up call to why he isn’t a Quarterback in the NFL.

Christian Ponder- If your thinking about starting Ponder this week after his showing last week against the Packers, I wouldn’t expect the same numbers in this one.  The Vikes are probably going to give a heavy dose of AP to the Panthers in Carolina.

Running Backs

Start Em-

Chris Johnson- If this isn’t the week that CJ2k breaks out, then I don’t know what week it will be.  If he cannot have a great day against the terrible Colts Defense I have no hope for him for the rest of the season.

Frank Gore- Gore is going to have a huge day against the Browns this week, he has been playing lights out lately after getting off to a slow start, I expect 125+ in this one.

Jackie Battle- I like Battle again this week, as he seems to be the featured back for the Chiefs up against a weak run D in the Chargers.  I expect this game to be high scoring through out and Battle to get his share of touches and yards.

Pierre Thomas- The Saints are going to do what they did last week, this week against the Rams.  With Mark Ingram out, Sproles and Thomas’s carries and touches should rise even more.  Both of them should easily be in double digits at the end of this game.

Sit Em

Knowshon Moreno- McGahee is going to be out this week, so Moreno finally has a shot to get his job back for once.  Lance Ball is behind him though, where John Fox does like him.  Don’t expect too much out of Moreno here against a good Lions Defense.

DeAngelo Williams- Stewart has been getting more and more goal line carries and more touches than DeAngelo Williams.  The Vikes have been up and down this year on Defense, I expect Stew to find the end zone over Williams.

Montario Hardesty- If Hillis can’t go on Sunday, Hardesty would be in the place for him.  I wouldn’t expect much from either if Hillis was starting anyways, the 49ers have been great when it comes to stopping the run.

Wide Receivers

Start Em-

Anquan Boldin- Boldin has been on a roll lately, and you have to ride him while he is hot.  Until then keep him In your lineups.

Antonio Brown- Brown has been getting his share of targets, getting close to Mike Wallace for them.  I expect Brown to have a big game in a shootout with a suspect Patriots Defense.

Mario Manningham- Manningham is due for a good game, especially against the Dolphins this week.  I expect him to get near 100 yards receiving and a TD.

Sit Em-

Brandon Lloyd- The thing is the Rams will be throwing a lot since they will be down big against the Saints early this week.  Bradford is ruled out already with Feeley slated to get the start, Sit Lloyd.

Michael Jenkins- Don’t let last weeks game fool you, Jenkins isn’t that great of a receiver for him to be in your lineups this week against the Panthers.

Reggie Wayne- There is nothing Wayne owners can do but sit him now until a miracle of Peyton Manning coming back happens.  Owners knew had a risk coming into the season, and are paying for the repercussions.
