NFL Week 5 Start Em/Sit Em

I’m going to try to keep this up every week, showing you my choices of upcoming weeks on who you should start or sit if you have any lineup decision’s to make before Sunday.  I usually have my own problems to try to solve with my team, so I believe many of you have the same problem, and that’s why I am here to help.

I’m not going to be saying to start or sit players like Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, Calvin Johnson, Matt Forte, etc.  Those are usually no brainer starts, unless they of course are injured, or a game time decision leading up to their games.  So let’s get started for this week’s Start em, Sit em for Week 5.

Week 5 Team’s on Byes: Ravens, Browns, Cowboys, Dolphins, Rams, Redskins

Quarterbacks

Start em

Cam Newton- He is fastly becoming a must start every week and this week is no different as he goes up against the New Orleans Saints, the Saints d has a decent secondary, but they did let up 373 yards to Matt Schaub in week 3.  I see no reason why Newton can’t put up 20+ in every scoring league, essentially this game looks to be high scoring.

Mark Sanchez- The Patriots are giving up the most passing yards allowed in the league this year, mostly due to the fact that Tom Brady and co. are scoring at will, that means most teams are either down, or in a shootout.  Thos bodes well for Sanchez and the Jets receivers this week, likely leaning on the pass game this week.

Kevin Kolb- Kolb and Fitzgerald should hook up a lot this week in Minnesota, the Vikes are the 5th worst in passing yards allowed, as their run D has been one of the most solid in the league.  Beanie Wells is questionable, as he was last week, but this week I have a feeling Kolb will be throwing much more than he did last week.

Josh Freeman- He has gotten off to a slow start this year throwing only 3 touchdowns, and 4 int’s.  This week he has a juicy matchup against the 49ers who don’t have a great secondary, look for Freeman to throw all over the 49ers and put up a good week.

Sit Em

Ryan Fitzpatrick- I know a lot of people have been suprised of Fitzpatrick’s start to the year, throwing for 9 td’s and only 3 int’s thus far.  This week against the so-called “Dream Teams” defense, I don’t like the matchup for him.  I can see him throwing for a couple of scores, but don’t be looking for a ton of yardage.

Jay Cutler–  The Bears offensive line is gonna be a mess I believe in this game against Detroit.  If Nick Fairley does make his debut, this is an even worse matchup for Cutler.  Look for him to check down a lot to Forte, and maybe look Roy Williams way a lot in his Detroit return.  Don’t expect to much else from Cutler this Monday Night.

Matt Hasselbeck- Being a surprise so far for the Titans, Hasselbeck has been able to throw close to 1200 yards, and 8 td’s.  This week he is up against the Steel Curtain in Pittsburgh, that should be enough reason not to start him, along with Kenny Britt being out for the season.

Running Backs

Start Em

Mark Ingram- Myself an owner of Ingram, I am starting him along with Beanie, he is due for a big game against the Panthers who have the worst Run D in the league.  Matt Forte ran for 200+ last week, and I look for the Saints to have a steady dose of run here even with the sharing with Thomas and Sproles.

Joseph Addai- Curtis Painter isn’t that great as most people would know, and with the Chiefs coming in not being good at all vs the run, I can see Addai catching the ball out of the backfield, and being able to rush for at least 75 or more.

BJGE and Stevan Ridley- Look for both of these guys to have a good week, I have both of them on my bench this week starting Beanie and Ingram instead, I might get burned by it since the Pats could get up big on the Jets and run the ball.  The Jets run d this year has been terrible this year, and you never know what coach B has in mind for the Pats.

Cedric Benson-the Jaguars are in the middle of the back when it comes to stopping the run this year, I believe Dalton will be able to get the passing game going enough to open up some holes for Benson.

Sit em

James Starks- Ryan Grant returns this week as being listed as probable to go against the Falcons.  He will definitely take some touches away from Starks, after having a good game against the Bears in week 3 before getting hurt.  Starks caught 5 balls for 38 yards last week, adding 63 rushing against the Broncos.  Granite the Broncos have a good rushing D, the Falcons are even better.  I’d look for better options if you have them.

Willis McGahee- Willis rushed for 103 yards against the Packers last week without having competition from Knowshon Moreno for carries, while he was still healing somewhat from his hamstring injury.  The Broncos take on the Chargers this week, where I think the Chargers are gonna be up big pretty quickly.  Look for Moreno to get more carries this week if McGahee doesn’t produce early, and for the Broncos to be throwing through out.

DeAngelo Williams-  DeAngelo is coming off a 10 rush 82 yard game against the Bears, which is decent for him since he only rushed for a combine 61 yards the previous 3 games.  I see the Panthers going to the air more than the rush this week against the Saints who are more susceptible through the air.  Look for Jonathan Stewart to get a touchdown this week over DeAngelo, and be used more in the passing game.

Wide Receivers
Start Em

Mike Williams (TB)-  Mike Williams hasn’t really gotten off to the best start most fantasy owners thought he would by now, but I think this is the week he has a big game.  The Bucs are most likely going to have to rely on the passing game to move the ball, and Freeman will look for Williams enough times for him to have a big day.

Santonio Holmes/ Plaxico Burress- The Patriots pass defense should be enough to start both of these guys this Sunday.  Burress and Holmes both had 33 reception yards a piece last week, as the Ravens dominated that game on Defense.  Here though were talking about the Patriots D, with the Patriots offense going to be able to score at will.  So look for both of these guys to have solid games.

A.J. Green- Green is coming off another good performance as an NFL Rookie with a 4 reception 118 yard game against the Bills.  Green should be able to get open against the Jaguars this week in Jacksonville, look for him to score this week also.

Jeremy Maclin- Maclin should be in line for a huge game this week against the Buffalo Bills who have given up 1100 passing yard so far this year.  I like all the Eagles players in this one, as their going to have something to prove against the Bills this Sunday.

Sit Em

Nate Washington- Many people who lost Kenny Britt may have picked up Washington as a replacement, this week doesn’t look to good for him.  A matchup with the Steelers doesn’t bode well for Nate, as he was only able to produce 2 rec for 62 yards last week against the Browns.

Eric Decker- Decker has been on a tear lately, catching 2 td’s last week against the Packers.  I know many people are high on him, and so am I, he’s just due for a let down this week against a good pass d in the Chargers.  He might be able to put up around 50 or 60 yards receiving, but don’t look for much more than that.

Pierre Garcon- Don’t let last weeks fluke of a game get to you, Garcon should not be in your lineups at all this week against the Chiefs.  These two bad teams go up against one another in Indianapolis, and Curtis Painter is still the quarterback.  I think Reggie Wayne this week is due for the huge game before Garcon or Collie.

Tight Ends

Start Em

Greg Olsen- The man the Bears gave away for a 3rd round pick, is developing some good chemistry with Cam Newton quickly.  He’s had a TD in his last two games, and I think that trend will continue this week against the Saints.

Jermaine Gresham- Love Gresham’s size and strength, especially when Dalton gives him so targets.  I like Gresham this week against the Jags, look for him to have a solid day.

Tony Gonzalez- The ageless wonder is having a great season already having 4 TD receptions on the year.  The Packers are struggling this year against the pass, and Gonzo is still getting balls thrown his way.

Sit Em

Scott Chandler- Many picked him up after his week 1 monster day, people may have picked him up who have Antonio Gates.  Chandler has posted 2 rec games in his last 3, and doesn’t get any easier this week with the Eagles.

Jared Cook- Cook is still not getting enough targets his way for him to be a fantasy producing Tight End.  He broke off a long touchdown catch last week, but that still isn’t enough for him to be starting in your lineups.  Consider him a bye week replacement at best.

Dallas Clark- He has been the culprit of not having Peyton Manning behind center for the Colts.  Clark’s numbers are sky rocketing down as many thought they would be with Collins, or Painter.  He has been too inconsistent to start for you now, so if you have someone better I would start them over Clark.
